Chilmark Camp
Completed in collaboration with architect Mark Hutker and landscape architects Horiuchi & Solien, this beautiful vacation home in Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard, marks the second time Kathleen Walsh Interiors and this team have worked together.

What is unique to this 5,000 square-foot home is first the layout; the master suite is in its own private building across from the main house, to ensure privacy and relaxation for the homeowners. The main house, with its open-plan kitchen/dining/LR space, allows for multi-generational entertaining and gathering. A boardwalk invites the family and visitors to catch a view straight through the meadow to the pond and beach dunes beyond the house, upon entering the property. And the house’s roof-deck with plantings provides a gorgeous ocean view, especially appreciated with morning coffee in-hand.
For the interiors, comfort, napping, and gathering dictated the program. Conversation, game playing, “crossword puzzling”, reading, and cooking were the activities the family asked to be encouraged via design. Finishes, furnishings, and textiles were all chosen from artisans who reveal their “hand” in their craft and all the art chosen for the residence are from Vineyard artists, with the selection reveals the many viewpoints and perspectives of the artists that call this island “home”. Environmentally conscious selections were made throughout the design process, and support for small, American manufacturers was a priority for the clients. Above all, a sensitivity of “place” was utmost in all the architecture and interiors.
Our busy clients delegated the design to us, and we worked to capture the essence of what they hoped to achieve, promising to deliver a turnkey home where all they needed to do was show up with their key and start enjoying their dream home immediately.
After their first weekend there, we received the loveliest letter telling us how pleased they were that we delivered what we promised. They love their home and the backdrop it provides to the most important aspects of life, connecting with friends and loved ones.
